In 1638, two ships, the Fogel Grip and the Kalmar Nyckel left Stockholm to settle New Sweden. It has been suggested that 4 men from Swedish Latvia were on one of those ships. Most likely the Kalmar Nyckel. I am searching for the ship's manifest, in hopes of finding the names of the Lettlanders or at least confirmation that there were indeed Latvians on that ship. Their is a museum in Wilmington, DE, and a reconstructed Fogel Grip ship.
As always suggestions, help, or corrections are always welcome in the search for the complete history of Latvians in America.
